THE DUTCH HOUSE - BANDARAWELA

A BOUTIQUE VILLA IN THE TRUE SENSE OF THE WORD

We welcome our guests to stroll around the two acre gardens and enjoy the very peaceful environment, where only the sound of chirping birds can be heard...a haven for bird watchers. Occasionally monkeys appear high up in the trees...such a pleasure  to watch. You may even be lucky enough to spot a deer roaming the gardens (They love eating our roses). As you wander around the gardens your attention will be drawn to the beautifully scented Brugmansia (Angels Trumpets) and the colourful and equally scented Brunfelsia Latifolia (Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow) This is the ideal place to relax and unwind, whether it is walking in the gardens, enjoying a drink or meal on the verandah or simply inside the house taking in the ambience of the interior.

The weather is generally very pleasing most of the year round, similar to a good English summer (If you can remember what they were like!), except for late November to early January when it can be misty during the day and chilly at night.

The gardens are very colourful throughout the year, especially from March to May when the daylilies and agapanthus are in full bloom. Attractive trees such as mango, avocado and jak are in abundance. In our little woodland area we are growing mulberry trees and the fruits (similar to a raspberry or blackberry) we use to make delicious apple and mulberry crumble...the owners speciality. To the right is the exotic night flowering "Queen of the Night" cactus (Epiphyllum oxypetalum).
